Job summary

Homes for the Homeless invites a seasoned Director of Buildings to lead maintenance and housekeeping at our Williamsbridge facility in the Bronx. You will provide on-site leadership, oversee day-to-day operations, and act as the liaison between site operations and Central Buildings, ensuring timely repairs and compliance with agency standards.

The role demands strong management, building systems knowledge, and flexibility to work varied hours for 24/7 operations.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a relevant field.
• Minimum of 3 years in a supervisory operational role in a residential or similar facility.
• Strong knowledge of general building systems and maintenance practices.
• Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficient computer skills including Microsoft 365.
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and lead maintenance and housekeeping staff, including interviewing and hiring, scheduling, coaching, performance oversight, timekeeping, PTO, and payroll.
• Conduct regular inspections of the facility, including resident areas, common areas, exterior spaces, roof, mechanical and electrical rooms, and other building systems.
• Identify issues and ensure repairs and preventive maintenance are completed promptly.
• Maintain knowledge of building systems (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, drywall, painting, windows).
• Coordinate with vendors and Central Buildings to facilitate repairs and verify completion.
• Maintain records for inspections, repairs, work orders, staffing, and violations.
• Assist with inspections by DHS, OTDA, DOB, HPD, FDNY, DOH, and others.
• Ensure compliance with NYC building, safety, health, and shelter requirements.
