Job summary

Monroe Public Schools is seeking a Director of Facilities to lead planning, operation, maintenance, and improvement of district facilities and grounds to support the educational mission.

The role oversees preventative maintenance, budget management, and capital projects, coordinating with vendors, administration, and officials while ensuring safety and compliance with regulations. Strong leadership and communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in facilities maintenance, building operations, construction management, or a related field, including supervisory experience.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and building systems.
• Demonstrated experience managing maintenance operations, budgets, capital projects, and procurement processes.
• Working knowledge of Connecticut school facility requirements and applicable building codes is preferred.
• Experience using computerized maintenance management systems and financial software, or similar municipal systems, is preferred.
• Valid Connecticut driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Maintain records regarding preventative maintenance, service requests, expenditures, work-in-progress, warranties, inspections, and other facilities-related activities.
• Coordinate with facilities vendors, contractors, architects, engineers, consultants, and inspectors during visits and meetings.
• Develop and supervise routine maintenance and cleaning schedules; monitor warranties for equipment and building systems.
• Track expenditures and oversee the maintenance operating budget; manage inventory and supplies.
• Assist in planning and reviewing annual operating and capital maintenance budgets.
• Utilize Munis to monitor expenditures, maintain financial records, and oversee purchasing.
• Prepare bid specs, bid packages, and RFPs in line with procurement policies and regulations.
• Assist in planning capital projects from inception to completion, ensuring schedule and budget adherence.
• Coordinate with district admins, architects, engineers, contractors, vendors, and municipal officials for projects.
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and life-safety codes and OSHA requirements.
• Supervise maintenance staff, including Head Custodians; may involve hiring and training.
