Job summary

Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority is seeking aJanitor at BELCHER to maintain cleanliness and perform light maintenance across agency facilities in Akron, OH. The role reports to the Property Manager and emphasizes safety, efficiency, and reliable maintenance of common areas.

The position requires routine cleaning, basic repairs, and coordination with tenants during move-ins/move-outs, with responsibilities including grounds work and emergency response as needed.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid Ohio Driver’s License, good driving record, and insurability.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Ability to read, write and communicate effectively; work independently.
• Knowledge of custodial and building maintenance methods and safety practices.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions and work well with others.

Responsibilities

• Performs manual cleaning tasks across facilities, including mops, sweeps, vacuums, and window washing.
• Maintains restrooms, elevators, lighting, doors, walls and common areas; cleans walls and trash/recycle areas.
• Performs minor maintenance such as replacing light bulbs and hanging pictures.
• Assists with tenant move-ins/move-outs and site readiness for NSPIRE inspections.
• Assists with grounds-keeping, snow removal, and exterior maintenance as needed.
• Receives work orders, procures supplies, and maintains inventory and time records.
