Job summary

The City of Grand Haven is seeking a part-time Custodian to maintain cleanliness, safety, and operation of Central Park Place. Responsibilities include custodial tasks, minor repairs, preventive maintenance, and coordination with external contractors for major work.

The role also supports event setup and takedown to ensure spaces are ready for use. The position is about 20 hours per week with a schedule typically 3:00 p.m.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or GED or equivalent.
• Previous experience in custodial work or building maintenance preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides routine cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, dusting, window cleaning, carpet cleaning and sanitizing restrooms.
• Empty trash bins and maintain waste disposal areas.
• Keep common areas, offices, and meeting rooms tidy and presentable; conduct minor repairs such as changing light bulbs, painting, and patching minor wall damage.
• Address safety hazards promptly (e.g., loose handrails, broken tiles).
• Coordinate with external contractors for major repairs or maintenance projects.
• Maintain exterior areas including sidewalks, parking lots, and landscaping.
• Clear snow, ice, and debris from walkways during inclement weather.
• Monitor building security systems (e.g., alarms, access control).
• Assist with event setup and takedown; prepare event spaces by arranging furniture and equipment.
• Dismantle equipment, clean up, and restore space after events.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.
