JOB PURPOSE
The Custodian performs custodial tasks related to a specific job location, including general cleaning (restrooms, offices, cafeteria, sales floor, others as assigned), buffing, scrubbing, and basic tasks such as vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, and operating equipment like scrubbers, extractors, and buffers.
EXPECTATIONS FOR SATISFACTORY JOB PERFORMANCE
- Perform all required tasks as directed by Lead Custodian or Supervisor.
- Use floor machines for buffing, stripping, waxing, vacuuming, and carpet cleaning safely and according to schedule.
- Follow safety guidelines, company policies, and management instructions.
- Adhere to policies regarding safety, customer service, attire, hours, and timekeeping.
- Complete assignments according to schedule and customer expectations.
- Wear the required uniform at worksites.
- Perform custodial tasks based on scope of work and customer requests, including:
- Empty wastebaskets and replace liners.
- Dust and clean furniture, desks, and tables.
- Vacuum carpets.
- Spot clean soiled areas.
- Clean and sanitize toilets, sinks, and urinals.
- Clean counters, mirrors, and fixtures.
- Sweep and damp mop floors with disinfectant.
- Spot clean walls, partitions, and doors.
- Refill restroom dispensers as needed.
- Wipe tables, chairs, vending machines, and appliances.
- Clean sinks and mop tile floors.
This position may require working nights, early mornings, weekends, and holidays. Follow oral and written instructions, work effectively individually or in a team, and attend safety meetings.
EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS
Preferably a high school diploma or equivalent, with 1-2 years of custodial or cleaning experience.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS: REQUIRED & PREFERRED
Required Skills:
- Basic custodial and janitorial knowledge.
- Knowledge of cleaning equipment and techniques.
- Experience in cleaning and sanitizing washrooms.
- Ability to follow safety rules and report unsafe conditions.
- Ability to read and understand product labels.
- Good personal hygiene and appearance.
- Ability to maintain cleaning equipment.
Preferred Skills:
- Ability to keep janitor closets organized and safe.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Ability to read and communicate in English.
- Physical ability to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
- Repetitive motions including bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, reaching, climbing, and squatting.
- Operate small power tools.
- Require bending, kneeling, crawling, and reaching into areas not fully air-conditioned.
- Stand and walk for extended periods, including on stairs and ladders.
- Work independently and under stress.
- Maintain regular attendance.
- Optional local travel using personal vehicle (~10%).
- May need to access facilities requiring background checks.
