2024-2025 Custodian I - Full-Time (8.0 hours per day) - 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. - Various Locations TBD

Springfield Public Schools seeks qualified candidates for the position of Custodian I at various locations to be determined. This full-time position provides custodial services and basic maintenance to ensure the cleanliness, safety, and upkeep of school buildings and grounds for students, staff, and community members.

Essential Functions

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Completing logs, forms, and paperwork as required.
• Reporting safety, sanitary, and fire hazards immediately to the lead custodian.
• Assisting other custodial and maintenance staff.
• Maintaining and cleaning HVAC systems and using technology support systems.
• Performing building and grounds inspections.
• Basic groundskeeping activities such as leaf collection, snow removal, and drainage maintenance.
• Performing routine maintenance and minor repairs on custodial equipment.
• Unlocking/locking doors, windows, and gates; turning lights on/off; securing buildings.
• Cleaning and sanitizing areas, including floors, restrooms, and furniture.
• Operating power equipment like buffers, vacuums, and pressure washers.
• Maintaining outdoor areas, setting up for events, and cleaning windows and fixtures.
• Handling waste and recycling disposal.
• Responding to special custodial requests and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.

Certificates and Licenses

• Ability to obtain First Aid/CPR certification.
• Valid Oregon Driver’s License.
• Ability to pass required trainings.

Desired Qualifications

• Previous custodial experience in K-12 public schools.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of district policies, cleaning methods, safety practices, and operation of custodial equipment. Ability to communicate effectively, work cooperatively, and maintain confidentiality. Physical ability to lift heavy objects and perform physical tasks required for custodial work.

Physical Effort

This role requires standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds regularly, and occasionally up to 100 pounds. It involves bending, stooping, reaching, and using hands for handling tools and materials. Vision requirements include close, peripheral, and color vision.
