Position Summary

The Custodian IV position serves as the head custodian in an area based on the complexity and size of the assigned building or facility. This role is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, functional, and secure environment in accordance with codes and district policies, ensuring the building operates smoothly without disruptions to educational or community programs.

Work Schedule

This position works from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Distinguishing Characteristics

This position differs from Custodial III by the complexity and size of the physical plant and by providing work direction to custodial staff in the I or II positions.

Essential Functions

Employees perform various tasks including:

  • Completing logs, forms, and paperwork
  • Reporting hazards and safety issues
  • Assisting custodial and maintenance staff
  • Supervising and reviewing work of custodians
  • Developing work schedules and managing supplies
  • Maintaining HVAC and safety systems
  • Performing groundskeeping and minor repairs
  • Cleaning and sanitizing facilities
  • Operating custodial equipment
  • Setting up for events and maintaining building security
  • Responding to special custodial requests
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED OR
  • Four years of custodial experience
Certificates and Licenses
  • Ability to obtain First Aid/CPR certification
  • Valid Oregon Driver’s license
  • Completion of required safety and custodial training
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in educational settings, sanitation, or custodial work
  • Hazard communication and asbestos training
  • Experience supervising custodial staff
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of district policies, cleaning methods, safety practices, and equipment operation. Ability to communicate effectively, work cooperatively, and maintain confidentiality. Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally, with the capacity for physical agility required for cleaning and maintenance tasks.

Work Direction

No permanent staff supervision but responsible for training and providing work directions to custodial staff and volunteers.
