Job summary

UMass Amherst in Amherst is seeking a part-time Custodial Assistant to perform general cleaning and maintenance tasks within the Auxiliary Enterprises division. You will work as part of a team in CCAP, handling housekeeping, cleaning, moving furniture and trash removal.

The role requires physical stamina and the ability to follow written and spoken instructions, with focus on safe, sanitary facilities and clean surroundings across dining halls and cafes.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of methods used in institutional cleaning.
• Ability to withstand physical strain of manual tasks, stairs, lifting, ladders and bending.
• Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions.
• Ability to use simple hand and power cleaning equipment.

Responsibilities

• Removes trash and waste from assigned areas and places at designated site.
• Washes trash and waste receptacles to provide sanitary conditions.
• Cleans and restocks bathrooms and lavatories with disinfected facilities.
• Maintains walls, ceilings, doors and surfaces.
• Maintains furniture by dusting and washing.
• Cleans glass and mirrors.
• Maintains carpeted areas by vacuuming and spot cleaning.
• Maintains hard floor surfaces by sweeping, mopping, stripping and waxing.
• Assists in keeping exterior areas clean and safe.
• Moves and arranges furniture per room plans.
