Job summary

The University of Massachusetts Amherst is seeking a Part-time Departmental Assistant (Custodial Assistant) to perform general custodial duties in the Auxiliary Enterprises division, including cleaning, trash removal, and light moving of furniture as part of CCAP program.

This onsite, part-time role requires physical endurance and ability to follow instructions; schedule may include nights and weekends during 2026–2027 academic year, with employment through 5/29/2027.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of methods used in institutional cleaning.
• Ability to withstand physical strain of manual tasks (lifting, stairs, etc).
• Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions.
• Ability to use simple hand and power cleaning equipment.

Responsibilities

• Removes trash and waste from assigned areas and disposes at designated site.
• Washes trash receptacles and maintains sanitary conditions.
• Cleans and restocks bathrooms and lavatories; disinfects surfaces.
• Maintains walls, ceilings, doors, and surfaces; dusting and washing.
• Maintains furniture and fixtures; cleans glass and mirrors.
• Cleans and maintains carpeted areas and hard floors.
• Keeps exterior areas adjacent to buildings clean; removes snow and ice.
• Moves and arranges furniture per room plans.
