Job summary

PowerSecure is seeking a Fabrication Quality Control Technician to ensure welds, paint, powder coat, and metal fabrication meet quality standards. The role requires interpreting drawings and specs, maintaining inspection equipment, and documenting results.

A background in welding/fabrication and strong English communication are essential. Experience with QA processes and knowledge of coating and welding symbols are highly valued.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years’ experience in quality assurance or fabrication.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and welding/coating symbols.
  • Proficient with database software for data entry and tracking.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication.
  • Understanding of welding, paint, and coating processes.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following standards and regulations.
  • Understand equipment, UL file requirements, and general manufacturing practices.
  • Maintain inspection equipment and ensure it performs to standards.
  • Approve finished products against specifications and identify defects.
  • Document inspection results and input data into the database.
  • Track non-conforming materials and NCRs.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams.

Job Summary:

The primary duties of the Fabrication Quality Control Technician at PowerSecure revolve around ensuring the quality and overall conformity of the welds, paint, powder coat and metal fabrication for products that are manufactured, packaged, and assembled at the DI Campus and Randleman location. The individual’s responsibility is to ensure all fabricated material manufactured at PowerSecure meet the predefined inspection criteria and are in conformance with design documents, customer specifications, and industry standards.

Minimum Qualifications: (Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills):

  • 2+ years’ experience in roles related to quality assurance and/or fabrication required.

  • Recognize and understand a wide variety of welding techniques.

  • Weld, Paint, or Fabrication knowledge and experience is required.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents mechanical drawings, Weld and Coating symbols, work instructions, and written directions.

  • Must be capable of using computer software to enter information in database.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

  • Excellent proficiency of the English language (verbal communication, listening, written communication).

  • One or more of the following certifications is preferred: Certified Associate Welding Inspector (CAWI) Paint Inspector qualification, and/or Certified Quality Inspector (CQQI). However, these certifications are not required.

  • Demonstrated competency with quality control processes, and a passion for right-the-first-time quality.

  • Possess unquestionable Integrity (do the right thing…always, honesty, clear communications, adherence, and leadership on all aspects of financial and policy compliance.

    Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following standards, procedures, and complying with legal regulations.

  • Thoroughly understand the equipment, the standards, UL file requirements, and general manufacturing practices in steel and aluminum manufacturing, weld, or paint/powder coating.

  • Maintain inspection equipment, ensure equipment is performing to standard.

  • Approves finished products by confirming specifications, including proper dimension, joint strength, weld penetration, conformance with work-order specifications; responsible to identify defects like cracks, spatters, overlap and size.

  • Discuss inspection results with those responsible for products.

  • Document inspection results by completing reports and logs; summarizing re-work; inputting data into database.

  • Identify and follow proper procedure for all non-conforming material. Assist in ensuring all non-conforming reports (NCR) are tracked and recorded.

  • Communication and cooperation with the engineering, manufacturing, and quality department to ensure quality compliance and continual product improvement.

Basic Technician Proficiency Qualifications:

Level 1 Inspector - Minimum requirements /1 year of formal training such as a Diploma in Welding Technology from a community college or an apprenticeship in a welding related craft, 2+ years industry experience. Coating inspection and blast inspection training provided by supervisor.

Level 2 Inspector – Level 1 requirements completed, NACE Level 1 certified, completion of preparatory AWS CWI. +5 years industry experience.

Level 3 Inspector – Level 1 and Level 2 requirements completed, NACE Level 2 qualifications. AWS CWI. +7 years industry experience

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Limited local travel will be required. Less than 10%.

  • Must be able to work in confined spaces and to position oneself in various positions including low to the ground or high up on equipment.

  • Must be able to lift 50lbs and manipulate heavy test equipment and cables.

  • Manual dexterity to operate digital equipment, including computers and PLC’s, protective relays, controllers, and other such equipment with small fine buttons and operators.

  • Typical work environment will be conditioned space. Limited local travel may be required that will change the work environment. This is an active manufacturing setting; at times it will be noisy, and equipment will be moving.
