Job summary

Valero is seeking an External Reporting Analyst in San Antonio to prepare external financial reports for the SEC, banks, and other regulators under supervision. You will assemble workpapers, review XBRL, and coordinate with departments to ensure complete and accurate support for financial reporting, including footnotes for audits and Form 8-K filings.

Requirements include a Bachelor's in Accounting, 2+ years in accounting/auditing, and CPA or CPA candidacy; Master’s in Accounting is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or higher is required.
• CPA or CPA candidate status is required or preferred.
• 2+ years of accounting, public accounting, or auditing experience required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare external financial reports for the SEC, banks, and other regulatory agencies.
• Prepare and review workpapers supporting financial disclosures and statements.
• Review XBRL instances as assigned.
• Collaborate with departments to ensure accuracy of support documents for financial reporting.
• Prepare drafts of financial statements and footnotes for audits and other filings.
• Stay current on new GAAP and SEC reporting requirements and apply them as needed.
• Assist with identifying and resolving technical accounting/reporting issues.

As an External Reporting Analyst you will, under direct supervision, prepare external financial reports for the SEC, banks, and other regulatory agencies, and other filings.

• Assist in preparing reports filed with the SEC, including Form 10-K, Form 10-Q, Form 8-K, Form 11-K, and other regulatory statements as required.
• Prepare and/or reviews workpapers supporting financial statement disclosures.
• Review XBRL instance documents as assigned.
• Collaborate with departments as necessary to ensure completeness and accuracy of support workpapers for financial reporting.
• Prepare work papers and drafts financial statements (including footnotes) as assigned for: audits of defined contribution plans (Form 11-K) and related Form 5500 information; limited-scope audits of defined benefit pension plans and related Form 5500 information; Form 8-K filings associated with acquisitions, dispositions, retrospectively adjusted financial statements, etc.; separate company financial statements (audited and non-audited); other reports as assigned.
• Keep current on new GAAP and SEC reporting requirements and incorporates into the reporting process as necessary.
• Assist with identifying and resolving technical accounting and/or reporting issues.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.

Minimum Requirements

• Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero San Antonio location, required.
• Bachelor’s or higher level degree in Accounting required.
• 2+ years of experience Accounting, equivalent Public Accounting, and/or Auditing experience required.
• CPA or CPA Candidate required.

Preferred Requirements

• Experience in the refining industry preferred.
• Master’s degree in Accounting preferred.
• Experience using Workiva's Wdesk application preferred.
• Experience applying XBRL preferred.
