Job summary

Valero Energy is seeking a Network Operator to join the 24/7 alarm response and incident analysis team in San Antonio. The role focuses on monitoring Valero I/S infrastructure, troubleshooting, and coordinating with third-party providers to keep systems running smoothly.

The position involves creating and executing scheduled jobs, documenting processes, and helping automate repetitive tasks. On-site work with potential night/weekend shifts is required, with opportunities to contribute to ITIL

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• 2+ years of experience in a Technology or Network Operations Center in a large enterprise environment.
• 2+ years of experience with first level administration and troubleshooting of Windows Servers, virtual machines, and Telecom Circuits.
• Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero San Antonio location.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and respond to alarms from Valero I/S infrastructure and applications.
• Open and facilitate support calls with third party providers.
• Create, monitor, and troubleshoot scheduled jobs.
• Resolve incidents independently and assist with complex incident troubleshooting and resolution.
• Execute well-documented operational tasks transitioned from Level 2/3 teams.
• Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to identify and automate repetitive tasks.
• Maintain and improve runbooks and knowledge base documentation.
• Contribute to Valero’s automation initiatives by supporting scripting, orchestration, and process improvement efforts.
• Follow ITIL based service management processes (Change, Incident, Request).

As aNetwork Operator, you will work on the team responsible for 24/7 alarm response, incident analysis/troubleshooting/dispatch, enterprise job control, customer support, and general level 1 and level 2 I/S services across all Valero business units and locations. This position works on a shift schedule that may include nights and weekends and rotates quarterly.

In addition to core monitoring and support duties, this role is designed to reduce operational toil across the enterprise by taking ownership of repeatable tasks traditionally handled by Level 2 and Level 3 teams. You will work closely with those teams to document, standardize, and automate operational procedures—helping to streamline workflows and improve service delivery.

This position is an hourly non-exempt status, which means you are eligible for overtime pay.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• 2+ years of experience in a Technology or Network Operations Center in a large enterprise environment.
• 2+ years of experience with first level administration and troubleshooting of Windows Servers, virtual machines, and Telecom Circuits.
• Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero San Antonio location, required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree (or higher) or foreign equivalent degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology or related field.
• PowerShell scripting experience
• VMware vSphere or other hypervisor experience
• OpenText Operations Bridge, Network Node Manager, Network Automation or SMAX experience
• Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM).
• Cisco routing, switching, or UCS experience
