Job summary

Rivian is seeking a vehicle hardware validation engineer to own validation plans across exterior components and subsystems. You will define verification strategies, work with CAE and labs, and develop RTS to meet performance targets.

This role emphasizes hands-on testing, vendor coordination, and cost-aware planning within a fast-paced program. Strong collaboration and communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; advanced degree a plus.
• 1+ years of automotive requirements, validation, or mechanical system design experience.
• Experience with strength, fatigue, and durability testing for structural/exterior components.
• Experience developing DVP&R, test standards, and DFMEA-driven validation plans.
• Strong command of statistics for validation and sample size calculations.
• CAD experience to design, commission, or improve test fixtures and tooling.
• Proficiency with Office, Jira, Jama, Flow, Enovia; collaboration across teams.

Responsibilities

• Own vehicle hardware validation plans and ensure alignment with DFMEA and requirements.
• Develop and manage comprehensive subsystem validation plans for Exteriors.
• Define verification strategies at system, subsystem, and component levels.
• Lead vendor collaboration and on-site execution of validation testing.
• Provide hands-on support at labs for setup, shakedown, and complex tests.
• Troubleshoot issues, drive closure, and document outcomes with traceability.
• Use DFMEA, test data, and field feedback to refine validation plans and requirements.
• Own test documentation and compliance, archive external Rivian test reports.
