Job summary

Montgomery County Board of Education is seeking an Extended Day Campus Security Guard (Part Time) to patrol school grounds, deter vandalism, and assist with traffic flow. The role requires a valid Alabama driver’s license, and 3+ years in the security field with strong public communication skills.

Applicants will undergo a background check and fingerprinting; the position offers a part-time schedule on Montgomery campuses and an hourly rate of $17.00.

Qualifications

• Three years of satisfactory employment experience in the security-related field.
• Experience in law enforcement or youth relations is highly desirable.
• Ability to communicate effectively with the general public.
• Must have a valid Alabama Driver's License and MPS insurable driving record.
• Such other qualifications as may be appropriate or desired.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regularly scheduled patrols and inspections of school grounds and buildings to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry.
• Confront unauthorized or suspicious person(s), determine purpose on campus, route or detain them, and call police authorities for assistance when required.
• Assist in directing vehicular traffic and parking and report violations.
• Sound fire alarm to alert fire department and school personnel in the event of a fire on campus.
• May assist in extinguishing fire.
• Assist in the investigation of incidents and make written reports of security violations.
• Foster a positive relationship with parents, volunteers, and other school visitors.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

HOURLY RATE:

SPECIAL NOTE: The person selected for this position must agree to a background check, be fingerprinted, and pay a $46.20 fee. This is required by law.

SPECIAL NOTE: For employees starting work after the beginning date of the work term, the salary will be pro-rated and based on the number of contract days left in the school year, divided by the remaining months in the contract year.

(The funding for and duration of this position are finite, Pursuant to the Students First Act of 2011, Section 4(3)(b), tenure may not be gained by time served in this position).
