Senior Security Officer (3:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m.)
Regular/Hourly/Non-Exempt Service MJCC - Safety Transportation, Montgomery, AL, US
SUMMARY OF POSITION FUNCTION:
Responsible for supporting the overall safety and security of students, staff, visitors, facilities, and Center property. Provides day-to-day guidance to Security Officers, assists with coordinating security coverage, responds to incidents and emergencies, and ensures security procedures, documentation, and Center policies are consistently followed.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Patrols assigned areas and maintains a high level of awareness for disturbances, safety hazards, suspicious activity, unauthorized persons, traffic violations, and other unusual conditions.
- Provides day-to-day guidance and operational support to Security Officers and assists in ensuring assigned security duties are completed in accordance with Center policies and procedures.
- Enforces Center rules, regulations, security procedures, student pass requirements, and established safety protocols in a fair and consistent manner.
- Conducts routine building, grounds, and security checks to help ensure the safety of students, staff, visitors, facilities, and Center property.
- Responds to disturbances, emergencies, and security incidents; assists with de-escalation efforts and coordinates an appropriate response when necessary.
- Receives complaints, conducts preliminary fact-finding, and ensures security incidents are properly documented and reported to the Safety/Security Manager.
- Assists with coordinating daily security coverage, including preparing and adjusting schedules for Security Officers and drivers to support adequate staffing and Center operations.
- Performs parking and traffic control duties, provides escorts as directed, and assists with monitoring access to designated areas.
- Supports fleet management compliance, documentation, and reporting requirements and promptly communicates identified concerns to management.
- Serves as a resource to Security Officers during assigned shifts and communicates significant incidents, staffing concerns, safety issues, and operational needs to the Safety/Security Manager.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to support the safety, security, and operational needs of the Center.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
- Excellent communication skills; both written and verbal
- Knowledge of law enforcement procedures
- Basic knowledge of riot, crowd control procedures and proven ability to appropriately intervene in physical altercations
- Excellent interpersonal, mediation, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work with large groups of students, including students with special needs
- Proficient in the use of computer software such as MSWord, Excel and Outlook, etc.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma or GED.
EXPERIENCE:
- Six months experience in a security or work-related capacity preferred.
OTHER:
- Must possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Must possess or obtain valid commercial Driver’s License Class B with passenger endorsement within three months of hire. Water Safety Certification.
