Job summary

Textron Systems: Lycoming Engines in Williamsport, PA, is seeking an Experimental Mechanic to assemble and test engines and prototypes. You will set up equipment, fabricate supports, measure parts, and maintain test facilities in a safety-conscious, production-focused environment.

This role requires hands-on mechanical skills, basic sheet metal, pipefitting, and welding readiness, with a non-exempt full-time schedule.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Basic sheet metal, pipefitting and millwright knowledge.
  • Forklift license required.
  • Ability to build an engine from Power Section to Mag and test engines or hold FAA Powerplant (A&P) license.
  • Basic troubleshooting and ability to use measuring tools.
  • WeldingTraining or ability to be trained to weld.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble experimental and prototype engines, components and auxiliaries.
  • Set-up and operate engines, components and accessories for tests.
  • Install, maintain and repair experimental equipment and test facilities.
  • Fabricate engine mounts, baffles, tubing, brackets, etc.
  • Measure engine parts and components.
  • Weld ferrous or light alloys.
  • Support accident investigations during engine teardown.
  • Perform other duties as needed to meet production standards.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area and documentation.

JOB SCOPE
  • Assembly of experimental and prototype engines, components and auxiliaries.

  • Set-up and operation of experimental and prototype engines, components and accessories for performance and endurance tests.

  • Install, maintain and repair experimental equipment and test facilities.

  • Fabricate special equipment, such as engine mounts, baffles, tubing, brackets, etc.

  • Measurement of engine parts, components and accessories.

  • Weld ferrous or light alloys.

  • Support of accident investigations during engine teardown.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform other duties inherently required of the job classification.

  • Perform assigned work in a safety conscious manner.

  • Perform assigned work to specified quality and production standards.

  • Maintain equipment and tools used by the individual in a clean condition.

  • Perform assigned cleaning required to maintain individual’s immediate work area in a clean condition.

Prepare and/or maintain all documentation necessary to the duties of the job classification.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Basic Sheet Metal Knowledge

  • Basic Pipefitting Knowledge

  • Basic Millwright Knowledge

  • Forklift License Required

  • Possess the ability to build a complete engine from Power Section to Mag and demonstrate the ability to test engines; Or an FAA Powerplant (A&P) License

  • Basic Troubleshooting Skills

  • Ability to use basic measuring tools

  • Ability to be trained to weld
