Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Feed and treat hospitalized patients.

  • Prepare and administer medications and treatments as directed.
  • Perform venipuncture and assist with catheter placement.
  • Support fluid therapy and collect diagnostic samples.
  • Run in-house lab tests and maintain patient records.
  • Educate clients with clarity and compassion.

What Our Veterinary Assistants Do

As an Equine Veterinary Assistant at Stone Ridge Equine Care, you’ll work closely with our veterinarians and fellow team members to support exceptional patient care both in the hospital and through our equine services.

  • Feed and treat hospitalized patients
  • Assist veterinarians during examinations, treatments, and procedures
  • Confidently handle and restrain horses for veterinary care
  • Operate diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, including X-ray, shockwave, ultrasound, therapy laser, Digatherm, gastroscope, and more
  • Prepare and administer medications and treatments as directed
  • Perform venipuncture
  • Assist with catheter placement
  • Support fluid therapy
  • Collect diagnostic samples
  • Run in-house laboratory testing, including CBC/chemistry, fecal testing, and other diagnostics
  • Maintain accurate medical records and patient charts
  • Educate clients with compassion, clarity, and confidence
  • Communicate with clients regarding lab results, patient care, medications, discharge instructions, and follow-up needs
  • Support surgical procedures, including preparation, monitoring, recovery, and instrument care
  • Maintain clean, organized, and well-stocked patient-care and treatment areas
  • Anticipate the needs of veterinarians, patients, and teammates
  • Collaborate with the team to maintain an efficient daily workflow
