Job summary
Animal House Veterinary Hospital is seeking a Veterinary Technician/Veterinary Assistant to join our compassionate team in St. Charles. This full-time role requires weekday shifts with rotating Saturdays and a salary negotiable based on experience.
You will assist veterinarians, restrain patients, obtain histories, prepare exam rooms, and support diagnostic work. You will contribute to high-quality patient care, maintain medical records, educate clients, and collaborate with a friendly hospital
Qualifications
- Previous veterinary technician or veterinary assistant experience is preferred.
- Hands-on experience in a veterinary hospital or clinical environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Compassion and empathy for patients, clients, coworkers, and yourself.
Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, treatments, and medical procedures.
- Safely and compassionately handle and restrain patients.
- Obtain patient histories and vital signs.
- Prepare patients and exam rooms for appointments.
- Assist with diagnostic testing and laboratory procedures.
- Collect blood and other diagnostic samples as appropriate to your experience.
- Assist with venipuncture and IV catheter placement as appropriate to your skills and role.
- Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed.
- Prepare patients, instruments, and equipment for surgical procedures.
- Assist with anesthesia monitoring and patient recovery as appropriate to your experience.
- Provide attentive nursing care to hospitalized and outpatient patients.
- Maintain accurate and complete patient medical records.
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients.
- Educate clients about medications, treatment plans, preventive care, and follow-up recommendations.
- Keep exam rooms, treatment areas, and hospital workspaces clean, organized, and well stocked.
- Collaborate with veterinarians, technicians, assistants, and other hospital team members.
