Job summary

Fairmont Veterinary Hospital is seeking an experienced Associate Veterinarian with a focus on surgery to join our team in Fairmont, WV. A DVM with 5+ years of small animal practice is preferred, with confidence in soft-tissue procedures and advanced dentistry.

The role offers a hybrid schedule including appointments and collaboration with a skilled veterinary team to ensure excellent patient outcomes. Orthopedic experience is a bonus and growth in clinical skills is encouraged.

Qualifications

• DVM from an accredited veterinary school.
• 5+ years of small animal general practice experience.
• Must be licensed or eligible for licensure to practice veterinary medicine in West Virginia.
• Demonstrated experience performing soft-tissue surgery.
• Strong experience with companion animal dentistry and dental extractions.
• Ability to independently evaluate patients, develop treatment plans, and manage surgical cases.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative veterinary team.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality medical and surgical care to dogs and cats.
• Perform a variety of soft-tissue surgical procedures.
• Perform routine and advanced dental procedures, including dental extractions as appropriate.
• Evaluate surgical candidates and develop pre- and post-operative treatment plans.
• Utilize digital radiography, ultrasound, and in-house laboratory diagnostics to support patient care.
• Diagnose and manage a broad range of medical conditions.
• Perform wellness and preventive care examinations as part of a general practice caseload.
• Communicate surgical recommendations and follow-up care clearly with clients.
• Collaborate with other veterinarians on complex cases and surgical planning.
• Mentor and share surgical knowledge with other members of the veterinary team.
• Build strong relationships with clients and their pets.
