Job summary

Serco is seeking Experienced Mechanical Assemblers to support U.S. Navy ships in Newport News, VA.

You will fabricate and assemble electromechanical components from blueprints, perform preventive maintenance, and work aboard ships in challenging environments. Qualified candidates have a high school diploma, 5+ years handling power tools and assembling assemblies, and the ability to obtain a secret clearance and shipyard access.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• The ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearance.
• The ability to obtain and gain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background investigation, and pass a drug screening.
• The ability to obtain an OSHA certification.
• The ability to get respirator qualified and wear proper PPE during the shift.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience using power tools and assembling both large scale and intricate mechanical assemblies.
• 5 years of Shipboard Experience.
• Read drawings (Beginner).
• Demonstrated ability to work with blueprints, assembly drawings and sketches.

Responsibilities

• Follow blueprints, guidelines, and diagrams to fabricate and assemble electromechanical and electronic assemblies.
• Keep equipment operational by completing preventive maintenance and reporting malfunctions.
• Perform work with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field.
• Work on-board U.S. Naval Ships and military installations in challenging conditions.
• Read drawings, drill holes, cut metal, and use torque wrenches under supervision.
• Assist with HAZMAT control & safety and maintain clean spaces.
