Job summary

Serco is seeking Experienced Mechanical Assemblers to support a Navy project in Newport News, VA. You will fabricate and assemble electromechanical and electronic assemblies on ships and naval installations, following blueprints and diagrams.

The role requires at least 5 years of hands-on assembly experience, the ability to obtain a secret clearance, and a strong commitment to safety. Work may involve shifts and site access to shipyards, with travel up to 10% as needed.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearance.
  • The ability to obtain and gain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background investigation, and pass a drug screening.
  • The ability to obtain an OSHA certification.
  • The ability to be respirator qualified and wear proper PPE throughout the work shift.
  • 5 years of Shipboard Experience.
  • 5 years of combined experience in: read drawings (Beginner); drill holes, cut metal, shoot studs & use torque wrench (without supervision); assist with HAZMAT control & safety; bolts/unbolts cableways, deck plates & equipment; drill holes (with supervision); operate light machinery/equipment; position, join, align, wrap & seal pipe & conduit sections; follow directions from senior employees; carry equipment & clean spaces; remove lagging & paint.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with blueprints, assembly drawings and sketches to complete a wide variety of assembly and subassembly tasks.
  • Experience in fabrication and precision assembly of mechanical assemblies.
  • Ability to work a second or third shift as needed and be willing to work more than 40 hours per week.
  • Ability to work in high heat spaces, climb shipyard dry dock stairs/ladders, kneel for cable runs under false decking, lift up to 50 pounds with 80% of work requiring carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 40 pounds, while standing, crouching, or walking.
  • Attention to safety.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% to various work sites.
  • An active DoD Secret Clearance.
  • An OSHA Certification.

We are looking for Experienced Mechanical Assemblers to join a high‑profile and challenging project supporting the US Navy in Newport News, VA. The role involves fabricating and assembling electromechanical and electronic assemblies on ships and naval installations.

In This Role, You Will
  • Follow blueprints, guidelines, and/or diagrams to fabricate and assemble various electromechanical and electronic assemblies.
  • Keep equipment operational by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer’s instructions, and reporting malfunctions.
  • Perform work with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field.
  • Plan and accomplish goals relying on limited experience and judgment.
  • Work on-board U.S. Naval Ships and military installations in environments that may be uncomfortable due to drafts, noise, and temperature variation.
  • Operate equipment where carelessness could result in injuries or death.
To Be Successful In These Roles, You Will Have
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearance.
