Job summary

Huntington Ingalls Industries' Newport News Shipbuilding division is seeking an experienced Welder/Structure to join the X18 Welders team in Newport News, VA. The role requires 3+ years of hands-on welding experience and involves structural and pipe welds on Navy ships using SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, and GTAW.

As a Welder, you will train through the shipyard Welding School and perform welds in all positions, with opportunities for skill expansion, safety training, and advancement within a large, diverse

Qualifications

• 3+ years of Welding experience.
• Must be able to take measurements or be willing to learn.
• Must be able to work assigned shift as production needs.
• Must be able to work at extreme heights or small confined spaces.
• Must be able to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb.
• Must be able to lift 40 lbs and pass a respirator fit test.
• Must be able to work indoors/outdoors year round in all weather conditions.
• Must be able to pass Physical Agility Test.
• Must be able to perform overhead work.
• Must be able to work overtime as needed.
• Must be willing to undergo a background investigation and drug screen.

Responsibilities

• Perform tack, fillet and full penetration welding on steel foundations and joints.
• Utilize SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, GTAW welding processes.
• Work in all positions using manual and mechanized methods.
• Ensure welds satisfy nondestructive testing requirements (visual, MT, UT, RT).
• Receive additional training including visual inspection and troubleshooting.
