Job summary

Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, is seeking qualified welders with a minimum of 10 years of hands-on welding experience.

You’ll undergo training at the shipyard Welding School and perform structural and/or pipe welds on aircraft carriers and submarines using SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, GTAW. Relocation assistance ($5,000) and a $5,000 sign-on bonus are offered.

Qualifications

• Candidates must have a minimum of 10 years welding experience, with 1.5 years of Newport News Shipbuilding exposure.
• Must be able to take measurements or be willing to learn.
• Must be able to work assigned shift as production needs.
• Must be able to work at extreme heights or small confined spaces.
• Must be able to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb.
• Must be able to lift 40 lbs and pass a respirator fit test.
• Must be able to work indoors/outdoors year round in all weather conditions.
• Must be able to pass Physical Agility Test.
• Must be able to perform overhead work.
• Must be able to work overtime as needed.
• Must be willing to undergo a background investigation and drug screen.

Responsibilities

• As a Welder, you will complete training through the shipyard Welding School.
• Perform structural and/or pipe welds using SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, GTAW on ship construction.
• Welds in all positions with manual and mechanized processes, meeting nondestructive test requirements.
• Receive additional training including visual inspection, fire watch, and equipment troubleshooting.
