Job description

EXPERIENCED EQUIPMENT OPERATOR

Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. (GOH), a leader in heavy highway construction since 1952, is seeking experienced equipment operators. GOH equipment operators operate heavy, material‑moving construction equipment to excavate, prepare, maintain, and/or repair civil and heavy highway ‑ related projects. Additional duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Safely operate heavy equipment in and among live traffic and in a safe and effective manner.
2. Perform daily safety and maintenance checks/procedures, as well as equipment lubrication.
3. Wear personal protective equipment.
4. Meet performance and technical standards.
5. Comply with company quality control standards and procedures.
6. Provide guidance and encouragement to promote teamwork that increases productivity and efficiency.
7. Read grade stakes and use a lock level.
8. Assist with approved loading and tie-down procedure.
9. Complete required paperwork including Operator's Daily Report.
10. Perform manual labor such as digging or shoveling, assisting with placement of pipe and material, or other manual labor duties.
11. Communicate with Equipment Manager, Shop Superintendent, Leader, customers and peers concerning equipment and job-related problems.
12. Exercise proper care and maintenance of company equipment.
13. Frequently work more than 40 hours per week and non-traditional hours including night shift, Saturdays, and occasionally Sundays.
14. Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction.
15. This is a safety-sensitive position.

Knowledge of:

1. OSHA safe trenching regulations.
2. Utility installation.
3. Heavy construction equipment operation.
4. Occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
5. Construction operations.
6. Basic and routine construction drawings, blueprints, sketches, diagrams and specifications.
7. Soils, aggregate fill materials, bases, proper mixing and compacting techniques.
8. Quality control standards and procedures.
9. Prefer knowledge of GPS/LPS for respective machine.

Ability to:

1. Recognize problems or errors at work site related to position.
2. Make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment and detect problems with equipment.
3. Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
4. Learn and follow GOH Company policies and procedures.
5. Work with indirect supervision.

Qualifications:

1. Must be prompt, reliable, and dependable.
2. Must have a valid driver's license for the state in which you resided with acceptable driving record per company minimum standards for drivers.

Education:

1. Prefer high school diploma or equivalent.
2. Prefer certificate or degree in Heavy Equipment Operation or related field.

Experience: Applicants may be considered for equipment operator 1, 2, 3, or 4 depending on relevant experience.

Physical Requirements:

• Constantly (67%-100%) work in field environment with exposure to dust, exhaust fumes, noise, and vibration.

• Constantly (67%-100%) climb in and out of equipment safely and operate levers or pedals to make fine, highly controlled muscular movements to adjust the position of control mechanisms.

• Constantly (67%-100%) work and walk on uneven terrain.
• Constantly (67%-100%) bend, sit, stoop, and stand for long periods of time in the outdoor weather.
