Job description

The Department of Corrections (DOC), State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Frackville is seeking a dedicated Corrections Equipment Operator. As a Corrections Equipment Operator, you willtrain and oversee inmate workers loading and unloading freight. You will conduct inmate worker orientation, ensure work assignments are completed usingproper methods of trailer loading and unloading, submit attendance records, and provide input for performance reviews. You will also operate tractor trailers, trucks, and other motor vehicles totransport freight for the DOC Correctional Industries (CI) Regional Laundry Operation as well as performroutine vehicle maintenance and safety checks. This role requires the ability to form effective working relationships that will enable inmates to learn the standard principles and practices of freight terminal operations.In addition, you willinventory materials and tools while adhering to work area safeguards including exercising control over inmates and searching for contraband.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 5:30 AM to 1:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework:You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $46,986.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience in the operation of tractor-trailer trucks; or
  • A combination of experience and training which affords the applicant the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.

Special Requirements:

  • You must be in possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class A Commercial Driver's License as required by law for operation of equipment used by the Department of Corrections.


Additional Requirements:
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
