Job summary

H&R Block is seeking an experienced Bookkeeper in Michigan to deliver accurate bookkeeping, payroll, and exceptional client service. You will contribute to our brand purpose of providing help and inspiring communities while supporting clients with financial statements, tax forms, and payroll processing.

Ideal candidates bring 1–3 years of bookkeeping experience, proficiency with Xero, and an understanding of GAAP, confidentiality, and multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• National bookkeeping and payroll certifications, or the ability to obtain them.
• 1-3 years of bookkeeping experience.
• Knowledge of bookkeeping practices and generally accepted accounting principles & procedures.
• Ability to interpret and apply complete instructions, policies and regulations.
• Ability to treat confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
• Analytical skills and an eye for details.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to multi-task and work independently.

Responsibilities

• Post financial transactions into subsidiary books and general ledgers.
• Reconcile and balance accounts.
• Generate and analyze financial statements.
• Prepare and process payroll.
• Generate 1099s and W2s and calculate and prepare tax statements.
• Communicate with clients, clients' suppliers, vendors and banking contacts.
• Assist in client retention and client growth opportunities.
