Job summary

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Hartford Public Schools oversees all financial operations, ensuring fiscal stability and transparency for a $450 million plus budget while aligning with the district's educational mission.

This senior leader accelerates equity and excellence by implementing the multi-year strategic plan and annual operating plan, providing guidance to the Superintendent and Cabinet, and driving strategic financial planning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, education, or related field.
• Advanced degree (JD, MBA, MPA, or CPA) preferred.
• Extensive (over 10 years) relevant work experience and knowledge of business, finance, schools/district management, personnel management, and operations.
• At least five years of senior level experience with superintendents, cabinet leaders, boards, or nonprofits preferred.
• Experience overseeing large and complex budgets and grants management.
• Familiarity with MUNIS accounting software is a definite advantage.

Responsibilities

• Advises and counsels the Superintendent regarding district finances.
• Develops and implements short- and long-term budget plans aligned with strategic objectives.
• Leads financial reporting to boards, government bodies, and stakeholders.
• Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
• Oversees fund management, accounts, payroll, procurement, and budget monitoring.
