Job summary

ReNEW Schools in Hartford, CT seeks a Director of Secondary Teaching and Learning to provide strategic leadership across all secondary instructional programs. You will ensure equitable access to standards-based curricula, effective teaching practices, and data-driven interventions to raise student achievement.

The role leads the Secondary Teaching and Learning Team to plan, coordinate, evaluate, and implement curricula, promote academic rigor, and prepare students for college and the workplace.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in education or related field.
• Minimum five (5) years’ teaching experience in a secondary school setting; urban experience preferred.
• Three (3) years as an instructional coach, specialist, or administrator supporting schools; urban experience preferred.
• Proven expertise in designing and implementing high-quality, standards-based culturally responsive secondary curriculum and assessments.
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Common Core State Standards.
• Experience developing and delivering professional development to a broad audience.
• Proven track record in advancing student outcomes by implementing equitable and inclusive practices.
• Expertise in data analysis, MTSS frameworks, and evidence-based literacy/math intervention programs.
• Demonstrated success leading change and program implementation in an urban school/district.
• Knowledge of and experience with the needs and challenges of neighborhood and/or magnet urban schools / in urban/multi-cultural settings.
• Proven ability to evaluate effectively and provide detailed instructionally focused feedback.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated ability in an executive position with major responsibility for administrative management.

Responsibilities

• Lead, direct, and coordinate the work of the Secondary Teaching and Learning team to support schools.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate a culturally relevant secondary curriculum aligned to CCSS that meets diverse student needs.
• Research, pilot, and recommend multicultural instructional materials and resources.
• Design and deliver high-quality, ongoing professional development for teachers and administrators that aligns to the district's PL Framework.
• Support implementation of MTSS-based interventions to support struggling learners and accelerate learning.
• Analyze district student assessment data disaggregated by demographics to identify gaps and focus areas for improvement.
• Collaborate with school leaders to build instructional leadership capacity and ensure high-quality implementation across all secondary schools.
• Foster a culture of high expectations and oversee coaching of teachers in collaboration with principals.
• Recruit and develop a diverse district instructional team with urban education experience.
• Keep apprised of current reform models, assessments, and research on best practices in teaching/learning.
• Provide leadership in CCSS implementation and standard-based curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
• Monitor implementation of curriculum and instructional practices through classroom visits, meetings, and consultations.
• Actively use data-driven decision making to modify and enhance curriculum and instruction.
• Perform other duties as directed by the Chief Academic Officer.
