Job summary

Merchants Capital is seeking a Senior Vice President, Investment Real Estate Asset Management – Sponsor Loans to oversee a portfolio of structured loans for select owners and developers. The role includes underwriting, loan structuring and ongoing asset management with cross-functional collaboration across platforms.

Responsibilities include leading a small team, coordinating with asset managers and analysts, and ensuring rigorous financial analysis, risk assessment, and timely reporting.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of relevant experience.
• Experience structuring, underwriting, or managing secured and unsecured structured loans, including real estate mortgages.
• Prior asset management and underwriting experience required.
• Organized, detailed-oriented with a personable demeanor for high-quality customer experience.
• Problem-solving skills with a self-start mentality under pressure and deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Encourages strategic, creative thinking with data interpretation to manage risk.

Responsibilities

• Oversee underwriting and structuring of new loan opportunities.
• Manage borrower relationships on a portfolio of secured and unsecured loans.
• Set up and maintain detailed loan files for funding requirements, disbursements and repayments.
• Monitor collateral structures including ownership pledges, cash flow, developer fees and assets.
• Ensure timely quarterly financial analysis, loan grading and covenant testing.
• Conduct credit analysis for extensions and modifications with risk articulation.
• Participate in Loan Review Memo calls for new deals and expectations post-close.
• Contribute to risk rating methodology and development of team infrastructure and staffing.
• Collaborate with underwriting, originations, legal and closing to resolve deal issues and lessons learned.
• Lead special projects and provide feedback on resource and technology needs.

Education

Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, real estate or related field
