Job summary

Merchants Capital seeks a Senior Vice President, Investment Real Estate Asset Management – Sponsor Loans in New York to oversee a portfolio of structured loans and lines of credit for real estate owners and developers. You will guide underwriting, loan structuring, and ongoing asset management with a small team, balancing internal and external stakeholder needs.

Qualifications

Minimum 10 years of relevant experience.
Experience structuring, underwriting, or managing secured and unsecured structured loans, including real estate mortgages.
Prior asset management and underwriting experience required.
Detail-oriented, organized, with strong communication skills.
Ability to manage deadlines under pressure and respond to urgent needs.
Capability to interpret data to support risk management and decision-making.

Responsibilities

Oversee underwriting and structuring of loan opportunities.
Manage borrower relationships on a portfolio of loans.
Set up and maintain detailed loan files with funding requirements.
Monitor collateral structures and perform quarterly analysis and covenant testing.
Conduct credit analysis for extensions and modifications.
Present for Loan Review Memo calls and support deal execution.
Contribute to risk rating methodology and team infrastructure.
Escalate issues to Credit Committee and exec management.
Collaborate with underwriting, originations, legal, and closing teams.
Lead special projects as assigned.
