Job summary

The Metropolitan Opera seeks an Executive Office Intern to support the Senior Executive Assistant to the General Manager in managing the Executive Office. You will assist with phones, filing, transcribing dictation, and errands across the Opera House.

This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in opera, arts administration, and nonprofit entertainment to learn how the Met runs on a day-to-day basis. The role requires flexible hours including evenings and weekends during the season.

Qualifications

  • Prior Administrative Assistant experience.
  • Knowledge of opera and/or experience in a non-profit environment.
  • Completion of a Bachelor’s degree; working towards a Master’s degree.
  • Possess strong interpersonal, communication, and administrative skills.
  • Excellent project management skills and able to prioritize multiple projects.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet Explorer.

Responsibilities

  • Provide phone coverage for the General Manager and other staff as needed.
  • Fax, copy, and prepare documents for distribution, mailing or delivery by messenger.
  • Prepare reports as requested by the Senior Executive Assistant and the General Manager.
  • Transcribe dictation.
  • Provide coverage to the General Manager when Senior Executive Assistant is out of the office.
  • Perform other duties as required by the Sr. Executive Assistant.
  • Order and maintain general office supplies.
  • Retrieve packages from Stage Door or Front of House.
  • Expedite customer complaints. Forward or respond as needed.
  • Greet and escort visitors from Stage Door or Front of House. Offer hospitality services to General Manager’s guests as needed.
  • Assist Sr. Executive Assistant with tasks and ensure all functions are covered.

Job description

The Executive Office Intern’s role is to support the Senior Executive Assistant to the General Manager in managing the Executive Office. The ideal candidate will assist with various duties such as answering phones, filing, transcribing dictation, and running errands throughout the Opera House.

This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in opera, arts administration, and non-profit entertainment to learn how the Met runs on a day-to-day basis.

This individual must be able to work flexible hours, which includes evenings and both Saturdays and Sundays during the season. This is a part-time paid internship, with a minimum of 25 hours a week in the office at $17/hour.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Provide phone coverage for the General Manager and other staff as needed.
  • Fax, copy, and prepare documents for distribution, mailing or delivery by messenger.

  • Ability to type at a moderate speed.
  • Ability to take dictation.
  • Ability to work occasional after-hour events.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

$17 - $17 an hour
