Job summary

Baker Tilly is seeking a Managing Director, HR & Payroll – Managed Services to lead strategy, growth, and delivery of comprehensive HR and payroll services. This senior role reports to the firm’s executive team, aligns people, process and technology, and drives profitable client outcomes across the practice.

The leader will originate and expand strategic relationships with C‑suite clients, oversee service quality, and build a high‑performing team while shaping the national practice.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, HR.
• CPP and/or SPHR, SHRM‑SCP, CEBS, or other credentials.
• 15+ years of progressively responsible leadership in HR, payroll, benefits, or managed services.
• Proven success managing multiple client relationships and delivery priorities.
• Strong payroll, HR, and benefits expertise with ability to direct complex work.
• Experience with payroll systems such as QuickBooks Online and ADP.
• Track record of business development and growing client relationships.
• Executive presence, communication, and decision‑making skills.

Responsibilities

• Own and execute the service line strategy, operating model, annual plan, and multi‑year growth for the Managed Services HRS Payroll & HR practice.
• Translate strategy into differentiated HR/payroll solutions and scalable delivery models with measurable outcomes.
• Maintain trusted advisor relationships with C‑suite and senior stakeholders and manage high‑risk client matters.
• Oversee service delivery standards, client experience, and quality controls across the portfolio.
• Lead executive sponsorship of strategic client relationships and priority pursuits from design through pricing and negotiation.
• Build and activate relationships with brokers, referral partners, and industry thought leaders.
• Lead a high‑performing team, forecast workforce needs, and develop career paths and succession plans.
• Sponsor the technology roadmap for HCM, payroll, data, and process improvements.
• Monitor budgets, billing, and governance to support growth and client value.
• Ensure compliance with ethical standards, independence, and firm policies.
