The Executive Director serves as the Norwood Chamber of Commerce's chief executive officer. This position advances the Chamber’s mission through strategic leadership, membership development, financial stewardship, advocacy, community engagement, and operational excellence. The Executive Director works closely with the Board of Directors, business leaders, elected officials, community stakeholders, and members to ensure the Chamber delivers measurable value and remains a trusted community partner.
Key Responsibilities Leadership & Strategic Planning
- Implement the Chamber’s strategic vision and goals in partnership with the Board of Directors.
- Develop annual goals, initiatives, and performance metrics.
- Serve as the primary spokesperson and ambassador for the Chamber.
- Promote a positive and collaborative organizational culture.
- Serve as the advocate and liaison to the City of Norwood and other key stakeholders.
- Establish and report on key performance indicators.
Membership Development & Engagement
- Recruit new members and maintain strong relationships with existing members.
- Develop programs, services, and networking opportunities that provide member value.
- Conduct regular business outreach visits.
- Track and report membership growth, retention, penetration, and engagement metrics.
- Promote participation in committees, programs, and sponsorship opportunities.
Financial & Operational Management
- Manage the Chamber’s annual budget, forecasting, and cash flow.
- Oversee administrative and operational functions.
- Ensure compliance with policies, bylaws, and legal requirements.
- Prepare reports and recommendations for the Board of Directors.
- Manage contracts, vendors, insurance, and office operations.
- Partner with the Board Treasurer to maintain financial health.
Events & Programs
- Oversee planning and execution of Chamber events and programs.
- Work with the Outreach and Events Committee on fundraising initiatives.
- Develop sponsorship opportunities and non-dues revenue streams.
- Evaluate program effectiveness and identify growth opportunities.
Marketing & Communications
- Oversee branding, website, social media, newsletters, and communications.
- Develop and execute an annual marketing and communications plan.
- Promote Chamber programs, events, and member success stories.
- Enhance the Chamber’s public image and community presence.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Communications, Public Administration, Marketing, or related field preferred.
- 2–3 years of leadership, nonprofit, chamber, association, or business management experience.
- Strong relationship-building, networking, and public speaking skills.
- Experience with budgeting, fundraising, sponsorships, and financial oversight.
- Strong organizational, strategic planning, and project management abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, CRM/member management systems, and social media platforms.
- Experience with event management and community engagement preferred.
- Knowledge of chamber operations and economic development preferred.
- Knowledge of the Norwood area and businesses a plus.
Work Environment & Expectations
- Evening and occasional weekend attendance at Chamber and community events may be required.
- Local travel within Norwood and the surrounding region may be required.
- Maintain a visible and active presence within the business community.
- Regular in-person engagement is expected.
Compensation
- Compensation is competitive and ranges from $25.00 to $32.50 per hour, commensurate with experience. Performance and compensation will be reviewed after 90 days, with eligibility for an increase based on contributions and overall performance. Eligibility for a performance-based bonus may be determined by the achievement of key metrics, including membership growth, retention, event participation, and sponsorship development.
