Job summary

Blue Star Families seeks an Executive Director for the National Capital Region (NCR) Chapter, based in the DC metro area with hybrid work. The ED leads strategy, revenue growth, and programs, reporting to the VP of Chapter Impact & Outposts, and shaping the flagship chapter's impact with 30,000+ members.

The role requires exceptional fundraising, governance, and stakeholder relations, with travel to DC and region, and residency in or relocation to the DMV.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or 7+ years in community development, nonprofit leadership, or strategic partnerships.
• Proven six-figure fundraising success, with experience building toward seven-figure revenue.
• Demonstrated experience working with Congress, government agencies, or political campaigns in Washington, DC.
• Exceptional executive communication skills, with comfort representing senior executives in high-visibility settings.
• Strong organizational management with budgeting, KPI accountability, and team development.
• Willingness to work nights/weekends for essential community events and up to 25% overnight travel; frequent local travel.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute a Chapter Sustainability Plan targeting $1M+ annual revenue.
• Lead the Chapter's staff, volunteers, programs, budget, and partnerships.
• Cultivate relationships with Congress, government officials, and philanthropic partners.
• Represent BSF with media, policymakers, and national partners.
• Drive cross-sector partnerships and community engagement.
