Job summary

Blue Star Families is seeking a Program Director for its Chapter Impact Team to lead programs, strengthen member engagement, and support fundraising in a remote-first environment with periodic travel. The role requires collaboration with the Executive Director and a dotted-line relationship to senior leadership, with autonomy in local chapter operations.

Expect to manage multiple programs, drive partnerships, mentor volunteers, and help advance advocacy and community initiatives.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4-5 years of relevant nonprofit program experience.
• Independent self-starter with strong interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of military family experience.
• Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
• Entrepreneurial spirit to engage partners and build solutions.
• Volunteer recruitment and management experience.
• Business development and fundraising experience.
• Public speaking and excellent writing skills.
• Ability to facilitate meetings and drive decisions.
• Proficient with technology and collaboration tools.
• Travel up to 25% or less as needed.
• Some evenings and weekends may be required.

Responsibilities

• Manage programs and events for the local chapter, aligning with funding opportunities.
• Develop and support local fundraising, identifying opportunities and proposals.
• Maximize local collaborations with key local organizations.
• Support executive on advocacy and other initiatives.
• Build relationships with local partners for delivery and fundraising.
• Educate leaders using the Annual Military Family Lifestyle Survey.
• Connect military families with community resources and programs.
• Develop a volunteer management program for the chapter.
• Execute marketing and communications strategies, including social media.
• Implement a strategic calendar for community events presence.
• Use project management tools (Hive, Salesforce, Google Workspace, Zoom).
• Engage volunteers, fellows, and interns to maximize impact.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
