Job summary

Blue Star Families is seeking an Executive Director for the National Capital Region (NCR) Chapter. You will lead local strategy, revenue growth, and programs, managing staff and a large volunteer network from a base in the Washington, DC area.

Reporting to the VP of Chapter Impact, this role drives six-figure fundraising, stakeholder engagement, and high-profile governance. It requires travel, political savvy, and a commitment to mission and impact.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or 7+ years of progressive experience in community development, nonprofit leadership, or partnerships; 5+ years of staff management.
• Proven six-figure fundraising success and donor stewardship.
• Experience with Congress, government agencies, or political campaigns and networks in DC.
• Exceptional executive communication and governance experience.
• Strong organizational management with budgeting and KPI accountability.
• Sound political judgment, integrity, and collaboration.
• Willingness for nights/weekends and locality travel (<25% overnight)

Responsibilities

• Lead Government Affairs and HQ relations; represent BSF at Hill events.
• Develop a Chapter Sustainability Plan targeting $1M+ annual revenue.
• Oversee staff, programs, budget, and partnerships for the NCR Chapter.
• Recruit and develop an active local Advisory Board and key stakeholders.
• Build cross-sector partnerships and diverse funding sources.
• Communicate BSF impact and brand consistently to audiences
