Executive Director, CSC Massachusetts
JOB SUMMARY:

Cancer Support Community (CSC) is the largest professionally led nonprofit network of cancer support worldwide. CSC uplifts and strengthens people impacted by cancer by providing support, fostering compassionate communities, and breaking down barriers to care. CSC is seeking an Executive Director for CSC Massachusetts.

The Executive Director, Cancer Support Community Massachusetts (CSC MA) reports to CSC’s Vice President, Strategic Growth. The Executive Director position will oversee all aspects of CSC MA and ensure the delivery of high quality, impactful support to people affected by cancer. The role includes leading staff and volunteers, managing the business of CSC MA, creating, and leading all aspects of fundraising and development efforts, as well as serving as the key liaison with community and healthcare partners.

The ideal candidate will possess highly effective management, fundraising, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. They will have a history of collaborating effectively with internal teams and external institutions while engaging diverse interest holders, including funders, community partners, and professional membership organizations. This role is ideal for a highly motivated, proactive individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment, effectively manages multiple priorities, consistently delivers high-quality results under tight deadlines, and is eager to contribute wherever needed to support the success of our small team.

This position currently reports into CSC HQ. CSC, Massachusetts, is intended to become an independent, standalone network partner of Cancer Support Community when fundraising and organizational goals are met.

Fundraising and Development
  • Develop and implement strategies to grow philanthropic support by cultivating relationships with individual donors, corporate partners, and foundations, while leading high-impact fundraising campaigns and events that advance the organization's mission and revenue goals.
  • Design, implement, and lead a comprehensive fundraising strategy that ensures the long-term financial sustainability of CSC Massachusetts, strengthens community engagement, and aligns with CSC’s national fundraising strategies, policies, and standards.
  • Build, cultivate, solicit, and steward a diversified portfolio of individual donors, corporate partners, foundations, community organizations, and civic leaders to secure annual, major, planned, and transformational gifts that advance CSC Massachusetts' mission and impact.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive donor stewardship and moves management strategy that deepens relationships, strengthens donor engagement, and fosters long-term philanthropic investment.
  • Partner with and support the Advisory Board, volunteers, and community leaders to expand fundraising capacity, identify new funding opportunities, strengthen strategic partnerships, and advance annual giving, major gifts, grants, and planned giving initiatives.
  • Lead the strategy, planning, and execution of signature fundraising events that generate significant revenue, elevate community awareness, cultivate prospective donors, and strengthen volunteer and stakeholder engagement.
  • Develop compelling grant proposals, sponsorship opportunities, and donor communications that clearly articulate the impact of CSC Massachusetts' programs and inspire philanthropic investment.
  • Serve as the primary external ambassador for CSC Massachusetts by representing the organization at community events, networking opportunities, and philanthropic engagements while building strategic partnerships that expand awareness, support, and mission impact.
  • Collaborate closely with CSC Headquarters to leverage national fundraising resources, campaigns, marketing support, and best practices while ensuring local fundraising efforts align with organizational priorities and brand standards.
Organizational Development
  • Serve as the chief ambassador and spokesperson for CSC Massachusetts, building awareness of the organization's mission through media relations, public speaking, community partnerships, marketing, social media, and other external engagement opportunities.
  • Partner closely with the Program Director to strengthen program delivery, expand community outreach, and ensure fundraising, marketing, and community engagement strategies effectively support the needs of people impacted by cancer.
  • Recruit, develop, and support a high-performing Board of Directors that reflects the diversity of the communities served and brings a broad range of professional expertise, lived experiences, and community connections to advance the organization's mission and strategic priorities.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with the Board of Directors, Advisory Board, volunteers, healthcare partners, community organizations, donors, and other key stakeholders to strengthen collaboration, advocacy, and organizational impact.
  • Ensure compliance with CSC’s national standards, policies, brand guidelines, and operational expectations while maintaining excellence in local operations.
  • Implement organizational strategies, goals, and priorities in partnership with CSC Headquarters, aligning local initiatives with national strategic objectives while responding to the unique needs of the Massachusetts community.
Financial & Operational Management
  • Provide overall financial leadership for CSC Massachusetts, including developing and managing the annual operating budget, monitoring financial performance, ensuring responsible stewardship of resources, and presenting regular financial reports, forecasts, and recommendations to CSC Headquarters in partnership with the Vice President of Strategic Growth, CSC Headquarters and Program Director, CSC Massachusetts.
  • Ensure the legal, financial, and operational integrity of the organization by maintaining compliance with applicable laws, regulations, organizational policies, and CSC national standards.
  • Lead the day-to-day operations of CSC Massachusetts, overseeing administrative functions to ensure efficient and effective operations.
  • Recruit, develop, coach, and lead a high-performing team while fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and mission-driven culture. As the organization grows, build the staffing structure needed to support strategic priorities and sustainable growth.
  • Partner with the Program Director, CSC Massachusetts, to ensure programs and services are delivered efficiently, effectively, and in alignment with CSC's quality standards and community needs.
  • Engage and support volunteers as valued members of the organization, creating meaningful opportunities for them to contribute to program delivery, fundraising, and community engagement.
  • Collaborate closely with CSC Headquarters, Network Partner Executive Directors, and cross-functional national teams to leverage shared resources, implement organizational initiatives, exchange best practices, and advance CSC's collective mission.
  • Monitor organizational performance through key operational, financial, fundraising, and program metrics, using data to inform decision-making and drive continuous improvement.
  • Performs other duties as requested by management.

CSC Massachusetts strongly prefers local candidates for the remote position with some in-person and occasional travel required.
