Job summary

The YMCA of Western North Carolina seeks an Executive Director to guide staff, volunteers, and service-line initiatives across the association. This leadership role drives financial development, culture, and partnerships to advance the Y’s mission and strategic plan.

Responsibilities include overseeing budgets, recruiting and coaching staff, and strengthening collaborations with community organizations while maintaining a high-quality member experience aligned with our core values.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree is required; bachelor’s or master’s degree in human services, social services, business, or equivalent is strongly preferred.
• Five or more years of management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.
• Experience must demonstrate strong skills in human relations, budgeting, fiscal management, financial development, program management, volunteer and staff development, and committee and board relations.
• YMCA Multi-Team or Branch Leader certification preferred or obtained within two years from the hire date. Preferably five or more years of management experience in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.

Responsibilities

• Oversee operations of the assigned service line and center, ensuring high-quality programs.
• Manage donor portfolio and lead financial development to support goals.
• Maintain a positive YMCA culture within service lines and centers.
• Recruit and develop center advisory committee volunteers and support program activities.
• Lead service line function(s) or social responsibility initiative.
• Hire, coach, and mentor all direct reports and conduct reviews.
• Develop and monitor operating budgets to meet targets.
• Forecast and analyze monthly variance reports to correct deficiencies.
• Represent YMCA in the local community and build partnerships.
• Ensure policies and risk management are implemented.
