Job summary

Colorado Department of Early Childhood seeks an Executive Director to lead the agency, set vision and strategy, and oversee governance, budgets, and policy implementation. The role requires strong communication, collaboration with state entities, and a commitment to equity in early childhood care and education.

You'll guide universal preschool initiatives, manage staffing and finances, and represent the department with external stakeholders and the Governor’s Office.

Qualifications

• A minimum of five years of executive leadership experience building a vision and orienting teams toward execution.
• Experience in early childhood and systems management.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills with diverse audiences.
• Demonstrated success cultivating relationships with stakeholders to achieve results.

Responsibilities

• Lead the department’s operations and implement services, policies, and programs aligned with goals.
• Oversee policy, budget, and management options to meet administrative requirements.
• Maintain external relationships to influence policies and serve customers.
• Support statewide universal preschool standards, licensing, and funding Prioritization.
• Lead development and execution of the department's communication strategy.
• Provide executive leadership to the Early Childhood Leadership Commission and related boards.
