Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment (CDPHE) seeks an Executive Director to lead the department, reporting to the Governor and serving on the Governor’s Cabinet. The role directs administration, programs, and strategic planning to protect health and safety across Colorado, including air, water, and land management.

Qualifications

• Five or more years of executive management experience in public or environmental health with budget responsibility.
• Experience leading large teams of 25+ employees.
• Experience managing regulatory, permitting, or enforcement programs in public health or environmental protection.
• Experience securing and administering federal grants.
• Strong collaboration with diverse stakeholders and partners.

Responsibilities

• Oversee department operations and align with goals and governor's initiatives.
• Direct budgeting and fiscal management within approved resources.
• Build a high-performing team through leadership, coaching, and development.
• Oversee environmental regulation, enforcement, and health initiatives.
• Brief the Governor’s Office on policy issues arising from state and federal activities.
• Foster relationships with diverse stakeholders and partners.
