Job summary

The Amherst Area Chamber of Commerce in Amherst, Massachusetts, seeks an Executive Director to lead a small staff, work with the Board, and advance a sustainable, member-focused organization.

You will build relationships with members and partners, translate priorities into action, oversee budgeting and reporting, and cultivate revenue through events, sponsorships, and services that strengthen the local business community.

Qualifications

• Experience leading or managing within a nonprofit or membership organization.
• Ability to listen, build relationships, and bring people together around needs and opportunities.
• Experience establishing priorities and turning ideas into action.
• Knowledge of membership development, fundraising, sponsorship or related revenue models.
• Financial literacy and experience with budgeting and reporting.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and public representation.
• Management experience overseeing staff, contractors or volunteers.

Responsibilities

• Build strong relationships with current and prospective members and understand their needs.
• Connect businesses with customers, institutions and community resources.
• Convene businesses around shared interests and opportunities for value.
• Create opportunities for business-to-business engagement beyond networking.
• Work with sponsors and partners to ensure meaningful value and diversified revenue.
• Develop annual budget, forecast revenue/expenses, monitor performance and report clearly.
• Maintain a portfolio of revenue-generating events and member-engagement activities.
• Translate Chamber priorities into action with Board and staff, establishing priorities and goals.
• Provide timely information to the Board on membership, finances, programs and challenges.
• Supervise staff and contractors and foster accountability and follow-through.
