What We Need
The Town of Harrisburg currently has an employment opportunity for an Executive Assistant. An employee in this class serves as the primary clerical and administrative support assistant to the Town Manager’s Office. Emphasis of the work is on providing clerical and administrative support functions for the Town Manager’s Office and may also serve as the principal administrative liaison with operating departments. The range of work extends from routine to advanced complexity and requires considerable initiative, independent judgment, and discretion in completing routine work assignments, ensuring management is apprised of current information, and communicating management needs with other departments and the public. Administrative duties require tact and discretion in handling sensitive or confidential matters in the program areas. Work includes greeting the public and answering questions and relaying information, typing or data entry work, and creating and maintaining accurate files and records. Work is distinguished from other administrative support roles by the type and complexity of work assignments, independence of action, degree of interaction with the elected officials and sensitivity of issues encountered. Specific oral and/or written instructions and guidelines are available to apply to most work situations. Work includes the use of modern office technology including word processing, database, spreadsheet, presentation and/or specialized software. Work is performed under regular supervision of the Town Manager and Deputy Town Manager and is evaluated through observation, conferences, quality, and effectiveness of the work completed.
Desireable Candidate
Requires graduation from high school supplemented by business courses and considerable administrative support and/or fiscal experience including significant office technology use, or an equivalent combination of education or experience. Associate degree in business administration or other field related to the nature of the work performed is desired. Five (5) to seven (7) years of clerical or administrative support work for a chief executive in a public or private sector work environment. Notary Public (obtain within six (6) months of hire date). Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license.

The hiring range for position is $47,588 - $59.195 and starting salary will be dependent on qualifications and prior experience. Upon hire will be eligible for $2,500 sign-on bonus.
