Job summary

City of Mableton Police Department is seeking an Evidence & Property Technician to manage the receipt, identification, documentation, storage, and lawful disposition of evidence and property. You will ensure an accurate chain of custody and compliance with laws, policies, and court requirements.

This role requires meticulous records management, secure handling, and coordination with courts, prosecutors, and crime laboratories.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; 1–2 years in property management, records management, or related field.
• Must pass extensive background investigation.
• Must obtain IA/IAPE certification within one year of hire.
• Valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

• Receives, identifies, logs, tags, packages, and securely stores evidence and other property.
• Maintains chain-of-custody records for all items.
• Package, label, secure, and preserve evidence per procedures.
• Coordinate submission to crime laboratories and arrange secure transport.
• Maintain secure storage areas and access control.
• Prepare and release evidence for court or investigations.
• Coordinate lawful release of property to owners or approved recipients.
• Dispose or auction items and document dispositions.
• Conduct inventories and reconcile discrepancies.
• Respond to inquiries while maintaining confidentiality.
• Assist with development and implementation of procedures.
• Prepare reports on inventory, transfers, and dispositions.
