Job summary

City of Idaho Falls is seeking an Evidence Technician to manage the secure collection, storage and disposal of evidence and property for law enforcement. The role emphasizes accurate recordkeeping and adherence to procedures.

The successful candidate will maintain chain of custody, document items, and coordinate with investigators and prosecutors, ensuring compliance with policy and state law. A background check and CJIS requirements apply.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; one year of related experience or equivalent combination.
• Knowledge of law enforcement procedures, chain of custody and public records handling.
• Must be certified within two years as an Evidence Technician by IAPE; typing 40 wpm; CJIS security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Receive, store, inventory and safeguard property and evidence.
• Maintain chain of custody and prepare items for disposal or return.
• Photograph and document evidence; prepare and deliver to labs or other agencies as required.
• Log subpoenas, manage calendars and coordinate with prosecutors.
• Ensure compliance with policy and state laws; perform related duties as needed.
