Job summary

City of Colorado Springs is seeking an Evidence Unit Technician to collect and manage evidence, property, and items scheduled for destruction within the CSPD Impound Facility or Evidence Warehouse.

The role requires strict chain-of-custody practices, knowledge of evidence handling, and customer service in tense situations. Pre-employment background checks and related requirements apply; training for firearms handling is provided.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade (high school diploma or GED).
• One year of full-time, professional experience in a related field.
• Possess, or obtain upon hire, a valid Colorado driver’s license not subject to restriction.
• Possess, or obtain within three months of hire, NCIC/CCIC certification.

Responsibilities

• Retrieve and transport evidence, property, and items for destruction from/to all police divisions.
• Verify evidence tracking system entry for each item during intake.
• Use scanners to track evidence and property; maintain chain-of-custody records.
• Identify storage locations for various items (flammables, firearms, narcotics, etc.).
• Store items to prevent damage, loss, or cross-contamination; ensure safety.
