Job summary

The City of Charlotte's Police Department is seeking a Property Control Technician to manage impounded property for the Property and Evidence Management Division. The role emphasizes maintaining accurate records, secure storage, and timely release of items to authorized parties.

Responsibilities include processing evidence, testifying in court when required, and coordinating with courts, detectives, and prosecutors.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Valid NC or SC driver's license with 3 years of verifiable driving history.
• Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
• Knowledge of evidence chain of custody and firearms safety.

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate records of property and evidence to ensure chain of custody.
• Receive, package, label, and store evidence securely for quick retrieval.
• Submit evidence to supervisors, labs, or court officials as required.
• Testify in court regarding handling, documentation, and custody of evidence.
• Release evidence and property to authorized individuals per procedures.
• Dispose of evidence in compliance with policy and retention schedules.
• Log and release department property and equipment to authorized personnel.
• Scan and track property data using computerized databases.
• Communicate with courts, detectives, and prosecutors on status.
• Process ATF trace forms and conduct firearm background verifications.
• Assist in audits/inspections of the property room for accreditation.
• Perform other duties to support the unit's integrity.
