Job summary

City of Pearland, TX seeks a Recreation Specialist - Events to create, organize, and oversee events and activities for the community. The role includes marketing, volunteer recruitment and training, and managing event logistics and staff.

You will work under general supervision, developing methods and sequences to execute programs, while coordinating with city teams for safety and sponsorships.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business administration, hospitality, liberal arts, or closely related field is preferred.
• Two years' experience recruiting/managing volunteers and event planning preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement events, programs and activities for the department.
• Coordinate site logistics, including traffic maps, work orders, layouts, meetings, safety plans, and communication/marketing plans.
• Create marketing materials and collaborate with communications for press releases and flyers.
• Schedule staff and prepare supplies for events.
• Prepare Emergency Action Plans and safety plans for each event, collaborating with citywide event logistics teams.
• Book and coordinate vendors, entertainment and equipment logistics for events; manage contracts, insurance, and procurement.
• Identify sponsorship opportunities and perform sponsorship fulfillment and reporting tasks.
• Ensure safety of participants during events.
• Gather event summary data and write post-event reports, including attendance data, labor hours, budget, and participant evaluations.
• Review, recommend, and update divisional policies related to event safety and operations.
• Market, recruit & oversee volunteers for programs and special events.
• Train volunteers; create and update volunteer policies, procedures, forms and reports.
• Provide volunteer management and oversight during events and programs.
• Manage volunteer and event software and records.
• Identify, prepare, and justify annual budget requests.
