Job summary

The Regents of the University of California on behalf of their Los Angeles Campus is hiring a Banquet Houseperson to prepare and maintain meeting spaces for events across campus and affiliated sites. You will set up, move, and store furniture and equipment and proactively address client needs.

This role requires strong guest-service skills, teamwork, and the ability to adapt to varying event schedules. On-site position with potential for flexible hours and compliance with UC policies.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, understand, and speak English sufficient to determine and carry out job duties (Required)
• Skill in interacting effectively with guests, team members, and managers in a high-volume, public setting using positive body language, direct eye contact, active listening, and a friendly and professional demeanor (Required)
• Ability to engage with diverse populations in a respectful and culturally responsive manner (Required)
• Ability to read, write, and perform basic calculations necessary to properly configure room sets (Required)
• Ability to work cooperatively as a part of a team (Required)
• Ability to work efficiently under conditions of a fluctuating work load with frequent interruptions and distractions (Required)
• Working knowledge of safety and sanitation rules and procedures for food service and meeting room facilities (Required)
• Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance (Required)
• Ability to remain calm in the face of adversity, such as customer dissatisfaction (Required)
• Ability to independently troubleshoot basic audio-visual technical problems (Preferred)

Responsibilities

• Prepare meeting rooms for events, including setup and teardown of furniture and equipment (on-site and off-site)
• Transport and store meeting room equipment and materials
• Ensure rooms are clean and configurations meet client needs
• Address client requests and troubleshoot issues with heating, lighting, parking, and materials
• Assist with basic audio-visual setup and troubleshooting as needed
• Comply with safety, fire, sanitation, and University regulations
