Job summary

University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Catering is seeking a Banquet Houseperson to prepare rooms for meetings and events on- and off-campus. You will set up, transport, and store equipment, ensure rooms are clean, and tailor layouts to client needs.

Occasional AV setup and troubleshooting may be required, with adherence to safety and sanitation rules. The role supports a no-tipping environment and requires flexibility for varying schedules, including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, understand, and speak English sufficient to determine and carry out job duties.
• Skill in interacting effectively with guests, team members, and managers in a high-volume setting.
• Ability to engage with diverse populations in a respectful manner.
• Ability to read, write, and perform basic calculations to configure room sets.
• Ability to work cooperatively as a part of a team.
• Ability to handle fluctuating workload with interruptions.
• Knowledge of safety and sanitation rules for food service and meeting spaces.
• Regular, punctual attendance is required.
• Remain calm when addressing customer dissatisfaction.
• Independently troubleshoot basic AV problems (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Prepare rooms for meetings and conferences for on-campus and off-campus facilities.
• Set up, transport, and store meeting room equipment and furniture.
• Ensure rooms are clean and maintained; arrange tables and chairs and meet client needs.
• Troubleshoot client requests including heating, ventilation, lighting, room configuration, cleanliness, parking, materials, and catering.
• Move, store, and set up/teardown audio-visual equipment when needed.
• Comply with safety, fire, sanitation, and University regulations.
