Job summary

Boise State University is seeking a dedicated Events Security Manager to oversee the part-time event security program for athletic and campus events. You will recruit, hire, train, and schedule staff, ensure safety protocols, and manage event-specific procedures.

You will also supervise budgets, coordinate with Athletics and event organizers, and respond to emergencies during events while maintaining excellent service to attendees and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day management of the part-time event security program, including recruitment, hiring, training, and scheduling staff for athletic and campus events.
  • Ensure compliance with university policies, safety protocols, and event procedures for security personnel.
  • Manage scheduling and assignment of security staff to ensure adequate event coverage.
  • Provide feedback and conduct performance reviews; implement coaching and disciplinary actions.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive training program for part-time security personnel.
  • Oversee the budget related to the part-time event security program, including purchasing equipment and inventory control.
  • Coordinate with Athletics and campus organizers to meet security needs and training requirements.
  • Respond to campus emergencies during events; coordinate with full-time security and external law enforcement when needed.
  • Maintain high customer service and professionalism with attendees, faculty, staff, and the public.
  • May perform other duties as needed.

Job Summary/Basic Function

To manage the event security program for campus. Assist with emergency and non-emergency events, including but not limited to, event security budget, administration, personnel, information systems, general office management, training, and policy development.

Campus Security Authority

This position is identified as a “Campus Security Authority (CSA)” per the federal law known as the Clery Act. Per this law, the employee is required to report any crimes that he/she becomes aware of to the Clery Compliance Officer. Additionally, CSAs are required to complete annual training prescribed by the Clery Compliance Officer.

This position is not eligible for a hybrid/remote work schedule.

This position is not eligible for VISA Sponcership.

Level Scope

Spends the majority of time (50% or more) achieving organizational objectives through the coordinated achievements of subordinate staff. Manages experienced professionals who exercise latitude and independence in assignments. Establishes departmental goals and objectives, functions with autonomy. Manages the accountability and stewardship of human, financial, and often physical resources in compliance with departmental and campus wide goals and objectives. Ensures subordinate supervisors and professionals adhere to defined internal controls with a focus on policy and strategy implementation. Manages systems and procedures to protect departmental assets and requires practical knowledge in leading and managing the execution of processes, projects and tactics within one area.

Essential Functions
  • Oversee the day-to-day management of the part-time event security program, including recruitment, hiring, training, and scheduling of staff for athletic events, campus events, alcohol compliance, and fire watch duties.
  • Oversee scheduling, training, and performance of part-time event security staff for football games, athletic events, alcohol compliance, fire watch duties, and other campus events.
  • Ensure compliance with university policies, safety protocols, and event-specific procedures for part-time security personnel.
  • Manage the scheduling and assignment of part-time security personnel to ensure adequate coverage for all events, including athletic events, concerts, and other campus activities.
  • Provide regular feedback to part-time staff, conduct performance reviews, and implement coaching and disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive training program tailored to part-time security personnel, covering event-specific security needs, alcohol compliance, and emergency response protocols.
  • Oversee the budget related to the part-time event security program, including tracking personnel costs, purchasing necessary equipment, and managing inventory control for uniforms, radios, and other resources.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for part-time event security staff, ensuring clear communication of responsibilities, event details, and emergency procedures.
  • Coordinate with internal and external partners, such as Athletics and campus event organizers, to ensure that security needs are met and that part-time personnel are adequately trained for each event.
  • Respond to campus emergencies during events, ensuring that part-time staff follow proper procedures and work in coordination with full-time security personnel and external law enforcement if necessary.
  • Ensure a high level of customer service and professionalism from part-time security staff when interacting with event attendees, faculty, staff, and the general public.
Additional Departmental Responsibilities (35% of time)
  • Develop and maintain personnel files, including certifications, training records, and performance reviews.
  • Ensure staff is properly trained in safety protocols, fire watch procedures, and alcohol compliance measures for all events.
  • Collaborate with Athletics and campus event organizers to assess security needs and ensure proper staffing levels for events.
  • Manage the evaluation process for part-time security staff, providing feedback on performance and opportunities for improvement.
  • Monitor compliance with university policies, safety standards, and security procedures during campus events.
  • May perform other duties as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent, plus 5 years of experience, including 1 year of management experience.

Currently certified in First Aid/CPR/AED (or ability to obtain one).

Valid, current driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications
  • At least 2 years of experience managing an event security program at an institution of higher education.
  • At least 2 years of experience planning, coordinating, and participating in workshops, training, and outreach programs.
Salary and Benefits

Salary range is $60,673.60 to $65,000 annually and is commensurate with experience. Boise State University provides a best-in-class benefits package, including (but not limited to):

  • 12 paid holidays AND the University is closed between Christmas and New Year's (requires use of 3 vacation days)
  • Between 12-24 annual paid vacation days for full-time Professional and Classified staff depending on position type and years of service
